Solvero (Latin: Truth in soil is a new winery located in Garnet Valley in Summerland. They focus on small batch wines and take pride in protecting and promoting biodiversity of the land producing grapes with purity and a sense of place. They support minimal intervention and transparency in all aspects of wine production. I am told the winery is almost 10 years in the making, owned by the Sartor family with Alison Moyes as winemaker. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is their focus, grown in the estate Garnet Valley and Happy Valley Vineyards.
Made entirely from Pinot Noir, this inaugural 2020 vintage is made from clones 115, 667, 777, 828, 943, Swan and Pommard and its has a classic Old World character. Cranberry and sour cherry aromas are layered with rhubarb and fine spices, forest floor, leather, tealeaf and bacon fat. It has a silky entry with sweet and juicy red fruits, fine spice and tealeaf flavours, which echo the nose. Very pretty.
