Tangy, chalky, classic.
The top tier range of Chianti Classico, Gran Selezione first made its appearance just over a decade ago.
The last vintage of this complex Il Margone I tasted was the 2016 vintage and it was outstanding. The 2019 doesn't have the same complexity, but is still very good. Expect tangy red fruits and leather, fine spice, cedar, pipe tobacco and undertones of rose petals. The acidity is notable and adds some angularity; expect classic red fruit flavours and chalky tannins.
I'd give it a couple years in cellar to coalesce more.
