Smooth, mature, spiced.
From the appellation of Blaye in the Cotes de Bordeaux, this unoaked blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cab Franc and 10% Petit Verdot expresses cherries in vanilla, currents, brown spices and warm pipe tobacco atop pencil shavings, prune and play-doh. The palate shows maturity; dried cherry, balsamic, molasses and toasted spice flavours. There's heat on the finish but it maintains balance and structure. A striaghtforward blend for roasted meat, grilled veggies, lentils or firm cheeses.
Second review: November 2022
There is some maturity on this wine; leather, spice, prune and molasses, pipe tobacco, graphite and vanilla aromas lead to an equally savoury palate. Silky with pronounced acidity and flavours of cigar, pencil shavings, prune and soy sauce. Good length here with chalky tannins.
