Mature, elegant, woven.
The 16-acre Lake Breeze Winery was established in 1995 as one of the first on the Naramata Bench; winemaker Garron Elmes has been there the entire time. Especially known for their Pinot Blanc (and also for the rare Pinotage found outside of South Africa) they have a diverse portfolio and produce 10,000-15,000 cases per year. Lake Breeze has also long been known for The Patio restaurant overlooking Lake Okanagan, and more recently they took over a neighbouring acreage which has been named The Farmstead. Still under construction, it features an orchard, new vegetable and herb gardens, greenhouse, animal pasture (pigs and soon to be chickens) and composting station. The abundance of The Farmstead will all be featured on The Patio menu and remaining goods will be sold in a farm stand.
A cool climate blend from Lake Breeze's Naramata Bench vineyard the premium Tempest red is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon along with Cab France, Merlot and Malbec.
Showing it's age nicely right now, it offers dried red fruits. tobacco, crushed roses and vanilla, cedar chips, cigar and hints of apricots and nuts. The palate mimics the nose; woven and powerful it is also fresh and elegant. There is a hint of saline on the palate, which trails on the finish with fine spice.
I recommend drinking now.
