Style, supple, substance.
Lunessence was born in Summerland in 2014 when its owners took over a property in Summerland and named the estate Lunessence: Luna=Moon + Essence.
They believe in sustainable viticulture, balance and harmony in their vineyards, and achieved organic certification in 2020 while completing a new vineyard planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The grapes for this inaugural Chardonnay were sourced from a single vineyard in Osoyoos; unfined and unfiltered, it spent 8 months on lees in French oak (33% new) and went through partial Malolactic ferment. Expect warm buttered biscuits, grilled lemon, yellow apples and toasted spice aromas with undertones of vanilla and roasted hazelnut. The entry is fresh and grows more toasty mid-palate; it's supple but has some phenolic texture and the finish is long and creamy. Good balance overall, a Chardy with guts and style.
