Fleshy, savoury, smooth.
Winemaker Marco Pallanti has farmed this estate in Chianti Classico since 1982, producing acclaimed single-vineyard wines with the help of wife and co-owner Lorenza. San Lorenzo is a small valley, with 50 acres of vines planted in a mix of limestone and clay at an elevation of 1,650 feet.
Castello di Ama's San Lorenzo is named after the picturesque San Lorenzo valley viewed from the estate’s eighteenth-century Villa Pianigiani and Villa Ricucci. The wine is produced from the finest grapes grown in the historic vineyards Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo and Montebuoni. It is primarily Sangiovese that's been blended with the smallest quantities of Merlot and Malvasia Nera.
Distinct savoury notes of sausage and leather, brown spices and earth are layered with salted licorice, chocolate bark, dried cherries and balsamico. The palate entry is smooth and chocolaty with earthy, salty undertones alongside fleshy mixed berries, coffee and charred orange peel. It has notable depth and freshness with a persistent finish.
