Inaugural, mineral, fresh.
Located in the Cowichan Valley, BC's recently established sub-GI, Unsworth is a boutique winery that was acquired by Barbara Banke and her daughter Julia Jackson (Jackson Family Wines) in the summer of 2020.
This 2019 Chardonnay is the first Unsworth has ever produced and they're off to a great start.
It's a mineral dominant Chardy; think wet stone and oyster shell alongside lemon, warm yellow apples, start fruit and smoked hazelnuts and a whiff of baker's yeast. The palate has a similar leesy, wet stone character woven with lemon wax. It has a nice bounce in the mouth and plenty of freshness.
It reminds me of a Petit Chablis.
