Savoury, spiced, youthful.
Lunessence launched in 2014 after taking over a property in Summerland and with them they brought a philosophy of biodynamic farming: ergo no pesticides or herbicides. They ideally use only native yeast, no, or minimal fining (only bentonite and time), and very light or no filtration.
It's a premium red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot that spent 12 months in French Hungarian and American oak (12% new) and exhibits notable savouriness.
Smoked baking spices, small black berries, licorice, vanilla, leather, roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate and wild sage aromas lead to a brooding sauvage palate. Red and black fruits, medium-rare meat and dark mocha flavours are muddled with brown spice. Youthful and still tightly wound, it will benefit from cellaring for a year at least.
