Oliver's Phantom Creek Estates is owned by China-born Richmond-based businessman Richter Bai, who purchased the Phantom Creek and Beker (formerly owned by Harry McWatters who named it the Sundial Vineyard) vineyards in 2016.
From there a winery was erected, complete with guest center and restaurant. In 2021 Mark Beringer of Napa Valley joined the team as Director of Winemaking; he works alongside French consultants Olivier Humbrecht MW and Philippe Melka.
This 2023 rose is a proprietary blend of red grapes--likely Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenere--which are harvested from four separate estate vineyards in the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys. A pale salmony-peach shade, the nose suggests tart red berries, charred orange peel, vanilla and sage along with star anise, pipe tobacco, bourbon barrels and peach stone. It’s a slickly-textured pink that drinks like a red; medium-bodied and bone-dry it has a distinct savoury character and a spiced tobacco finish.
A definitive food wine for lamb, charcuterie, grilled salmon, hearty bean-based dishes or roasted mushrooms.
