Savoury, classic, pleasing. Despite the range of wines made at Quails' Gate, Pinot Noir is their flagship variety. Made from average 20-year-old vines from the volcanic free-draining soils on the estate vineyard it initially throws off aromas of smoked meat and spice rub, then rolls into blueberry, tealeaf, cocoa and wild berries. The palate is savoury as well; smoked and plummy with toasted spice lingering on the finish. It's the most approachable of the QG Pinots (as expected) but still has some good tannic structure.
Pair: salmon, duck, mushroom wellington, truffle risotto, roasted beets.
Pairs great with Gone Crackers Olive Oil & Cracked Pepper
