Plush, fresh, oaky.
This hefty premium bottle is filled with old vine (planted in 1968) Cabernet Sauvignon (74%) and Petit Verdot (14%) and smatterings of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. It was aged two years in mostly French oak barrels and is a limited release.
The first Garland (the 2016) was released to celebrate the winery's 50th anniversary in 2019.
It's a plush and velvety red with loads of kirsch and cassis aromas layered with licorice, vanilla, baking spices, pencil shavings, lavender soap and pipe tobacco. It's a fresh wine flavours of charred baking spices, black pepper, espresso and black chocolate, bacon fat and toasted oak. It has quite an extracted character and oak clings to the finish.
