Stoneboat, on the Black Sage Gravelbar in Oliver, is now owned by Rudy Verhoeff and Kyla Richey, former professional volleyball athletes. They also own Valley Commons, is a winery established in the District Wine Village in Oliver in 2021. Both wineries fall under the Verhoeff Group of Companies, which is headed by Paul Verhoeff, Rudy's father. The family also owns a flooring company, a brewery and restaurants in the Fraser Valley.
Because of the 2024 climactic struggles, Stoneboat (as well as many other Okanagan wineries) reached out to growers across the border and purchased grapes. The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine came from the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
It's a pretty wine, fragrant with berries and cherries, cedar, forest floor, leather and spice with vague nutty undertones. The palate echoes the nose; it is fruity, juicy and balanced with a silky texture and spiced finish.
