Earthy, silky, power.
While Rust Wine Co. is located on Golden Mile Drive, and is one of the handful of wineries allowed to use the designation Golden Mile sub-GI, they make four single vineyard Syrahs, aged 10 months in French oak (20% new), which are all unique and colour coded to site along with a matching label and wax dip.
This version comes from the volcanic ash and fine granitic sand of the Black Sage Bench outside of Oliver, the vines were planted on the Ferreira estate in 2002 at 333 MASL.
I tasted all four side-by-side upon opening and again 45 hours later, I felt they needed time to open.
Cherry, vanilla and black pepper aromas bleed into dry earth, cocoa dust and cold brew, which later become more sarsaparilla/cherry cola and violets along with dark chocolate. It has a soft entry that doesn't hide powerful undertones. Wild berries, black pepper, cocoa and brown spice lead to a sooty finish with classic silky volcanic soil tannins and flavours of cigar.
Pairs great with Gone Crackers Olive Oil & Cracked Pepper
Rich Meats , Good First Impressions, Cellar Keepers, GONE CRACKERS, Cheese Fondue
