Style, supple, substance.
Lunessence was born in Summerland in 2014 when its owners took over a property in Summerland and named the estate Lunessence: Luna=Moon + Essence.
They believe in sustainable viticulture, balance and harmony in their vineyards, and achieved organic certification in 2020 while completing a new vineyard planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The grapes for this small lot, native yeast fermented Pinot come from the Oliver vineyard. It spent 9 months in oak (25%) new and was unfined and unfiltered.
It has a Pommard feel to me, the notes are red cherry and beets, leather, forest floor, saddle leather, brown spices and some distinctly salty undertones.
