Made in West Kelowna with grapes from Washington State's Columbia Valley and the Okanagan Valley's Red Brick Vineyard, this Sangiovese has Cabernet and Malbec added for depth and structure.
Wine under cork:
Sangiovese, classic to Tuscany and especially to Chianti and Chianti Classico, is an uncommon variety here. This version is quite oxidative with bruised red berries, soy sauce, smoked meat and balsamic aromas. The palate follows suit, smoky with desiccated fruit and low acidity.
Wine under screw cap:
A marked improvement here. While the wine still has a rustic and slightly funky character (in a good way), the fruit is more apparent. Expect grilled strawberry, cherry, saddle leather, tealeaf and bittersweet cocoa aromas. Fresh on the entry with good balance, it offers flavours of red fruit, tobacco, spice and cocoa. Silky texture and overall, a good representation of the variety.
Score reflects screw capped wine.
