Decadent, fragrant, fleshy.
Lunessence launched in 2014 after taking over a property in Summerland.
Their philosophy is a part of their name: Lunessence where Luna=Moon + Essence. The essence of the Moon. Moon as an important part of biodynamic farming that they are implementing. There are no pesticides or herbicides used in their vineyards with a focus on natural wines; they ideally use only native yeast, no, or minimal fining (only bentonite and time), and very light or no filtration at all.
Lunessence likes its aromatics and this Viognier (the last time I tasted it was in 2019) had 35% of it fermented in neuatral French oak and was then aged five months on lees in stainless steel and neutral French oak. Decadent notes of apricot nectar, peach puree and banana are layered with honey, lime and ginger. It has a creamy weight, is slick and concentrated, fleshy but not flabby. Long and lovely it trails a zesty grapefruity finish.
A great example of the variety in BC.
