Pretty, fresh, classic.
The Ser Lapo is one of my favourites in the market. The Riserva tier is the second highest level of Chianti Classico wines after Gran Selezione and this one from Mazzei has a beautiful parchment wrapped label sealed with a wax insignia.
It's 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot and was aged 12 months in French oak barrels.
Expect a pretty nose of vanilla and roses, raspberry and strawberries, pipe tobacco and baking spices. It's fresh with notable structure and the palate is the an echo of the nose. Flavours of leather, cocoa, tealeaf dominate. The finish is classic with Sangiovese-type chalky tannins.
