El Enemigo wines are made by Adrianna Catena (the youngest daughter of Nicolas Catena of Catena Zapata) and Alejandro Vigil (the chief winemaker of Bodega Catena Zapata). El Enemigo The Enemy refers to the back label quote, which appears to be from Dante, but I could find no solid reference: At the end of the journey, we remember only one battle: the one we fought against ourselves, the original enemy. The one that defined us.
Notes of blueberry and black raspberry, vanilla, licorice, cola spices rest atop a plush chocolaty undertone. It's a supple red with generous fruit to mimic the nose: raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, vanilla, chocolate and licorice followed by espresso on the finish. Delicious, balanced and complete--this is one to seek.
