Potent, opulent, new
Upper Case Winery's the tasting room can be found at District Wine Village north of Oliver, the estate vineyards, owned by the Evertt family, are located in the South Okanagan Valley: Upper Case on the Black Sage Bench grows Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Pinot Noir. Miller Road Vineyard is also on the Black Sage Bench and is planted with Riesling and Merlot. The Border Vineyard is on the Osoyoos West Bench and is planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
The wines are made by Pascal Madevon--formerly of Osoyoos Larose.
This is the inaugural release of Upper Case wines.
The Cabernet Franc comes from a single vineyard in Osoyoos (not estate) and was aged 16 months in French oak, 30% new.
The nose is opulent; sweet spiced plums and currants, vanilla, pencil shavings and pipe tobacco, chocolate espresso and oak. Potent like the nose, the palate is a mix of red and black currants, black chocolate, espresso, brown spice and leather. It's an intense and powerful Cab Franc with good length and supple tannins.
