Okanagan Valley's Lunessence was born in 2014 after taking over a property in Summerland.
Their philosophy is hidden also in their name: Lunessence where Luna=Moon + Essence. The essence of the Moon. Moon as an important part of biodynamic farming that they are implementing. There are no pesticides or herbicides used in their vineyards with a focus on natural wines; they ideally use only native yeast, no, or minimal fining (only bentonite and time), and very light or no filtration at all.
This new Vin Gris is made from Gamay Noir with 13% skin contact and 87% whole cluster pressed. It was wild fermented, went through partial spontaneous secondary fermentation, and aged five months on less in neutral French oak and stainless steel. This pink flecked white has a notes of crisp red apples and lemon wax and orange peel and a hint of berries. It is slick and concentrated, generous but also honest. The finish is zesty, there is some lingering oak flavour.
