Savoury, woven smooth.
Owners of old Hill, the Gill family have been farming for thousands of years in the Punjab and when they moved to Canada in the 1980s continued to do so in the Okanagan Valley. Born in 2009, Gold Hill makes small lot estate wines from the Gill's 65-acres in the south Okanagan; 32 in Osoyoos and 24-acres on the Golden Mile (not part of the sub-GI).
This Merlot was aged in French oak for 18-months and delivers aromas of spiced plums and roasted herbs, smoked spices and roasted meat, leather, molasses and marmite. The palate is an echo of the nose; plums and cherries, spices and molasses with savoury undertones. It's smooth and well-woven with good length.
