Honest, fresh, classic.
I visited the Zorzal estate a decade ago, when the winery was only partially built in Gualtallary, a remote slice of Tupungato in the Uco Valley. I was wowed by the purity and honesty of the wines then and still am.
The vineyard where this Pinot Noir is grown is situated 1300 MASL. It's a young vineyard, planted on chalky soils, with a very pronounced slope, which helps to keep the ground healthy, thanks to no accumulation of water or frost. The climate is mountainous, so with large temperature shifts from day to night, resulting in grapes with thicker skins.
Expect notes of carrot tops and cedar chips, wild red berries and violets, leather, fine spice and dusty beets. Fresh, balanced with classic Pinot overtones, it's an honest wine with underlying savoury tones.
