The Golden Retreat Vineyard is a western aspect site near Summerland with a south facing exposure. The vines (Dijon and Pommard clones) were planted in its volcanic soils in 2008/2009. The wine was matured 13 months in 100% French oak barrels.
A potpourri of cedar chips and dried violets are woven with notes of cherry, red plum, tealeaf and leather. The palate is somewhat more savoury than the nose; expect flavours of spice and bacon fat. It is silky and balanced with sweet deep fruit and a peppery finish.
