Smoky, golden, spiced.
30% of this wine was fermented in oak, and then it was aged in oak barrel for 8 months.
I'm a huge fan of what Blue Mountain does, consistently, year after year, but I do struggle with this wine. The oak influence feels cumbersome, more in line with a Chardonnay, and I think it overwhelms the Pinot Gris character I was searching for.
However, if you like this style, you can expect rich golden fruits, salted caramel and smoked spice aromas which are echoed on the palate. The mid-palate is soft, but the finish holds the oak; flavours of coriander, toast, lemon peel and brown spice dominate. Good acid overall, and the finish is lengthy.
