An Okanagan Cookbook
I've known the author of An Okanagan Cookbook,
Jennifer Schell, for close to a decade.
We met while I was on a media trip to the South
Okanagan, and at the time, she was a writing for
Wine Trails Magazine.
Since then, we've briefly crossed paths, mostly through our mutual interests on social media.
Schell is now the editor of BC Food & Wine Trails Magazine, which I've contributed to once, by her request.
Released in 2016, The Butcher, The Baker, The Cheese & Wine Maker pays homage to the thriving wine and food culture the Okanagan Valley is amply blessed with.
Schell does a wonderful job, delving not only into the rich agricultural community of the valley, but the people who tie it all together.
It features a colourful assortment of chefs, winemakers, retailers, farmers, artisanal product producers, beer makers, cider makers and distillers.
Neighbours, friends, and families -- all comfortably captured in a bounty of colourful images.
The book is part cookbook, part product guide and part informal biography. It allows readers a snapshot into the daily lives, the work, and commitment of her subjects.
Not only a great gift idea for the lovers of Okanagan wine and locavores of all persuasion, it's a book you'll want to keep handy for your own reference as well.

"I am excited to share the passion that the chefs, farmers and winemakers have for the Okanagan Valley and it’s these stories that have created this one-of-a-kind cookbook."
