Wine Diva-isms

Tis the season
and I'm a sucker for it!

Around this time every year something happens to my brain.  It becomes a mushy sentimental mass, loses all focus and sense of reason and the world begins to look like a petroleum rimmed camera lens.

I don't bake.
I'm not a cookie monster and the Silpat Baking Sheet I asked for (in last years icing induced haze) has lounged unrolled in my cupboard still unused along with my whimsical cake book.

It seems to begin with American Thanksgiving and the ensuing  blitz of Christmas ads.
Chubby baking mascots, holiday jingles and chocolate turtles dance across the TV screen. Starbucks comes out with its familiar red cups and respective wintry flavoured coffees and Wine Diva become a marketers dream.

Visions of sugarplums dance across my dream screen...

I cut a recipe for shortbread cookies out of the newspaper today.
Why?
My Wine Diva waistline has enough to worry about with all that cheese I eat-forget dainties.

Give me a week and I'll be making gingerbread people and cinnamon meringues.
Soon I'll start purchasing tacky decor to match my whimsical Dr. Seuss Christmas theme-items that see the light of those irritating icicle lights for a mere 30 days in each year.

I'll begin to contemplate petit fours and intricate hors d'oeuvres and drag all the candles out of hiding. Suddenly new flannel pajamas will become sexy seasonal chic and I'll think a thick fuchsia shag rug will look particularly stunning in front of my fireplace.
I'll hunt down a fruitcake (okay, I admit I love the stuff) and finally find myself competing against Martha Stewart, Donna Hay and Anna Olsen while hoping for just a brief moment of clarity to set in and scream, "stop the madness!"

But c'mon-secretly I love it.

I just pray every New Years Eve that my brain returns to its original semi-firm state in the morning.
After the hangover.
After the gluttony.
After the Boney M.
And after those darn icicle lights.
