Cornucopia-Decadence and Indulgence

Tales from the Inside of a Glass

Cornucopia-Whistler's Celebration of Wine and Food-One of North America's premier wine events-celebrated it's 10th year this past weekend in grandiose style with plenty of the fluffy white stuff (snow), a river of golden nectar and tooth-staining red liquids a la Wine Diva, a shipping container of bubbly and parties to shame New Years Eve.
After it all, Wine Diva is more than happy to ascend to the Vancouver rain, detoxify and de-acidify, slide off the stilettos and rest my piggies while I contemplate my chipped manicure.

Unfortunately there is no rest for the wicked (or the liver).

I may have removed the bubbly drip from my vein to replace it with blood but there is still wine to be tasted and reviews to be done!

The Wine

A serious selection of back vintages 1983, 1994, 1997 and 2003 of Graham's Port all fresh and delicious. The 1994 still youthful and vibrant brimming with dried fruit and tobacco was Wine Diva's favorite!
Served with specially made Thomas Haas chocolates made with Graham's Porto.
Raining buckets of Lanson Champagne, the classic and affordable Black Label ($47.99 BC), the Lanson Brut Rose ($59.99 BC), the Gold Label Brut 1997 ($75.99) and the premier Noble Cuvee Blanc de Blancs ($145.99). All served with cheese and specially made Thomas Haas Champagne truffles made with Lanson.

During the "House Party-Washington Throws a Bash!" event agents poured wine from BC's neighbors from the south.
A wall of wine in the cellar at Bearfoot Bistro. Wine Diva is tickled pink with the selection of bubbly!
Six Amarone's from Masi. A tasting led by owner Raffaele Boscaini showcasing six wines from 1990 and 1999. Costasera, Vaio, Mazzanon and Campolongo di Torbi.
Exquisite!
Mugging for the tasters! Presenters; DJ Kearney, Stuart Tobe and a studious Mark Taylor prepping for the "Wine Guys-Wine Picks" tasting.

Summit Wine's Jason Mintz at the Calina table. Sorry Jason, I asked for the big bottle!

-Kendall-Jackson's teddy bear-George Rose!

Kendall-Jackson's winemaker Rangy Ullom. Does this gentleman ever stop smiling?

And soon you will be mine! A LARGE display of Pommery looking lonely at set up pre Bearfoot Bistro Masquerave.

The Food

A cheese tray and Thomas Hass Chocolates at the Graham's Port and Lanson Champagne tasting at the Four Seasons Whistler.

Cornucopia 10th ice sculpture alongside some bread nibbles to soak up the alcohol.

                                     Aww... Shucking!

The People

Vancouver Chefs Dino Renaerts from the Crowne Plaza Hotel Georgia and Celebrity Chef Vikram Vij of Vij's.
Boys-your glasses are empty!

Canada's own wine king (who is amazingly photogenic) Anthony Gismondi. And what's with all the  empty glasses?

Mark Anthony Wine Group's Marlee Wright-Elles cozies up to the locals for warmth.

And The Parties...

Bearfoot Bistro's Keith Nicholson pre-rave showing his stuff.

The Bearfoot Bistro's Moulin Rouge themed rave with the singular body painted male model pouring Pommery Champagne in the blue room.

FreeHouse Wine Group dressed in theme for the Bearfoot Bistro's Moulin Rouge Masquerave in the red room. Ted Latimer, Danica Jeffery & Theresa Clinton

Vikram Vij serving Bhel (Wine Diva's favorite Indian street food) in naughty paper cones in the blue room at the Bearfoot Bistro's Moulin Rouge Masquerave.

Araxi celebrates 25 years with a jaw dropping, structurally sound tower of cake (made by sister restaurant Cin Cin's Pastry Chef)at the Bubbles, Jazz and the Sea after party.

Peter Crews from New World Wines grins in glee with his new product (arriving in time for Christmas) Drappier Champagne, a creamy mouss-y and luscious Champagne at Araxi.

Theresa Clinton and Danica Jeffery pouring more Champagne at Araxi's Bubbles, Jazz and the Sea after party.

Frances Reggio from Vancouver's Tapastree and  his pouring partner from Burrowing Owl Vineyards Sonora Room Restaurant at Araxi's Bubbles and Jazz Party.
 Say cheers with Laurent Perrier!

Vicky Ainley from Vino Allegro Wines pours her Cantena Breganze Vespaiolo and cozies up to Vancouver's top oeneophile Stuart Tobe at Araxi's Bubbles, Jazz and the Sea.

A Wine Diva's dream...

...And finally-after a battle royal with the cork, Araxi owner Jack Evrensel pulls out the knife, sabers the bottle and decorates the room with De Venoge.
Happy 25th Araxi!
