Barefoot Moscato, California
Readers rated this wine:
A surge in popularity has seen the increase of Moscato, or Muscat wines (still and sparkling) arriving in stores. These generally sweet, low alcohol wines have taken off in Australia and North America more recently, but they have always been popular in other parts of the world, notably Piedmont with their frizzante Moscato d'Asti wines. Here, you can expect grapey aromas - white raisins, apricots in honey, floral and fruit-cup notes. The palate is expectedly sweet and fresh providing gobs of stone fruit and candied citrus peel flavours. It is light in body with soft acidity to help offset some of the wine's sweetness. Pair with an after-dinner cheese platter or spicy dishes.

Edna Valley Vineyard Chardonnay 'Paragon', San Luis Obisbo County California
Readers rated this wine:
New! Very solid, enjoyable style. Made from vineyards in San Luis Obispo (half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco), this tasty Chardonnay has it's foot firmly in the New World with butterscotch and pineapple chunks, vanilla, baking spices and zest of orange. It tastes like it smells - orange segments and pineapple, vanilla and spice lifted with a spritz of sweet citrus. It also has a rounded and creamy weight that will sing with fish in butter sauces, grilled chicken or pastas in cream sauces. ©copyright 2013 Daenna Van Mulligen
