Chariot 'Gypsy' Red Blend, California, 2010
Readers rated this wine:
Made by Jim Neal wines of California, this new red blend offers dark and savoury notes of dark chocolate, black fruits, leather and roasted coffee beans with undertones of grilled bell peppers, green olives and brown spice. It is just as dense and dark on the palate - expect bittersweet chocolate, dark fruit and spice. It's not a fruit-bomb; there is some substance here. A good wine for grilled meat and hearty, roasted dishes.

Chariot 'Gypsy' White, California, 2010
Readers rated this wine:
As near as I can tell, this is a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Marsanne. The Chardonnay seems obvious, its reaction with oak leaves telltale characteristics. In addition, expect spiced butter, nutty and leesy notes, toast and tropical fruit. There is good intensity in the mouth with flavours of butterscotch, spice and citrus. Nice weight and decent length. A wine to pair with creamy pastas, grilled chicken or a smoked cheddar and pear grilled cheese.

Chateau Bellevue La Randee, Bordeaux France, 2009
Readers rated this wine:
This affordable and approachable red Bordeaux is made from a blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, then it's aged in concrete. Attractive aromas of black currents and spiced tobacco, mocha, leather and violets with smoky undertones. The palate follows suit offering black fruit, chocolate and spiced cocoa flavours. A nicely woven wine with good structure, bright acidity and integrated tannin.

New! A pretty blush-pink colour with streams of small bubbles and aromas of summer berries, lemon oil, caramel apples, vanilla and toast with a hint of orchard blossoms. The palate is clean, fresh and delightfully spritzy. 100% Pinot Noir - very enjoyable! ©copyright 2008 Daenna Van Mulligen

Poggio Morino Rosso, Maremma Tuscany Italy, 2007
Readers rated this wine:
I visited this winery in Scansano in Tuscany on a blistering hot June day in the summer of 2008. In fact there was no winery, it had yet to be built. But I did tour the vineyards and sat to taste some wines made from grapes of the sourrounding vineyards. Needless to say I was happy to see a wine from Poggio Morino being imported locally. This is a simple but delicious pasta wine made from Sangiovese, Syrah and a bit of Alicante. Expect aromas of cherries, leather and earth, cigarbox, fine spice and hints of dried flowers. The palate is smooth, fresh cherry/red berry flavours are supported by mocha, spicebox and sunbaked earthy tones. The finish lingers with flavours of toasted oak and spice. Good value! ©copyright 2010 Daenna Van Mulligen
