Casolari Lambrusco Di Sorbara DOC Frizzante, Emiglia~Romagna Italy
Readers rated this wine:
I'm delighted to see Lambrusco coming back into favor as it brings memories of me sitting on the rooftop patio of the Gambero Rosso building in Rome one sultry June evening several years ago, eating pizza and drinking bubbly Lambrusco. I was told then (with great certainty) that Lambrusco was making a comeback - a newer drier (secco), modern style of Lambrusco. I fondly recall how good it was chilled down with that simple margherita pizza and how I hoped my host was right.
Made from the indigenous Sorba and Salamino grape varieties, this fresh and fruity ruby-red frizzante offers red fruit, and maraschino cherry, leather and cedar lined with violets and a hint of spice. The entry is purely sweet ruby fruit but it finishes dry. It is a simple rustic wine, but does not lack structure. Fun, juicy and refreshing.
Pairing - pizza obviously, but also Italian cheese, antipasti or rustic pastas.

I was told with great certainty that Lambrusco was making a comeback - a newer drier (secco), modern style of Lambrusco. I fondly recall how good it was chilled down with that simple margherita pizza and how I wished there was more of it available here.
Made from the indigenous Sorba and Salamino grape varieties, this fresh and fruity ruby-red frizzante offers up aromas of violets and ripe red berries with maraschino cherry, a hint of cedar, spice and vanilla. The entry is purely sweet ruby fruit but it finishes dry. It is a simple style with backbone and a bit of grip. Juicy and refreshing.
Pairing - pizza obviously, but also Italian cheese, antipasti or rustic pastas.

Casolari Trebbiano Dell'Emilia Frizzante, Italy, 2011
Readers rated this wine:

What a charming and affordable bubbly!
Made from the Italian variety, Trebbiano you can expect classic characteristics here - fine talc, tree blossoms, citrus and white fruit wrapped around leesy, brioche-type notes. Impressive weight in the mouth with good potency sufficient bubbles and an oily texture. Flavours are of apple sauce and roasted almonds, mineral and citrus. The intensity continues through the finish and it trails, flavours of brioche.
Perfect for first courses of fish or simple antipasti platters of cheese, salami, olives and bread.

Chateau Bonnet Chenas Vieilles Vignes, Beaujolais France, 2010
Readers rated this wine:

This Cru Beaujolais comes from the smallest of the ten Crus, Chenas, and is made from the classic grape of the region, Gamay.
There is currently a sister label in BC Liquor Stores, the Jullienas, which is also fantastic. But this Chenas was my favourite of the two - it's more elegant, a chic feminine style.
Expect fragrant raspberry, violets, red currents and sweet spice. It's medium-bodied and wonderfully juicy with sweet red fruit and fine cocoa. It has a fine texture and very good structure - the finish is long and fresh.
A wine for white meats, like turkey, chicken or pork, soft cheese, salmon or earthier dishes like creamy mushroom risotto.

Chateau Bonnet Julienas Vieilles Vignes, Beaujolais France, 2010
Readers rated this wine:

This Cru Beaujolais comes hails from Julienas and is made from the classic grape of the region, Gamay.
There is currently a sister label in BC Liquor Stores, the Chenas, which is fantastic an elegant, chic and feminine wine I highly recommend.
The Julienas has a very pretty bouquet of sweet and spicy raspberries, red currents, violets, vanilla and white pepper. The palate is spicy too - loads of juicy red berry flavours are layered with cocoa, star anise and savoury peppery spices, which linger on the finish. Don't be fooled by this fragrant. elegant wine, it's got great bones and the fine tannic structure to stand up to white meats, duck or lamb but roasted beets and pumpkin, or mushroom dishes will also pair nicely.
