Creamy Dishes Perfect Pairings
Creamy Dishes Sure Bets
Fettucini Alfredo, creamy mashed potatoes, risotto or cream based soups - creamy dishes need some acidity to clean the palate but still some structure to stand up. Sometimes the nutty, creaminess of an oaked Chardonnay and sometimes the crisp power of a German Riesling depending on the depth of flavour in the cream. Herbed cream sauces like crisp wines and richer nutty sauces or pumpkin risotto prefer a buttery chardonnay...

St. Hubertus Chasselas, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:

Chasselas is commonly found in Switzerland, where it is the perfect accompaniment to fondue!
Here, although much less common, St. Hubertus has created a following with this fragrant white. It has floral, muscat aromas that revolve around apricot, pear, yellow apples and creamed honey. The palate is light and fresh, the sweetness is tamed with lively acidity. Tangy but with rounded edges and a finish, which trails herbs and citrus flavours.
Pair with cheese fondue or with curried pasta salads or sushi.

Tinhorn Creek Pinot Gris, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:

An delightful expression of creamy yellow Bartlett pear, honeysuckle, orange blossoms and a spritz of exotic citrus. It is simply fantastic on the palate - weighted and slick with wonderful concentration. It has a whisper of sweetness offset with racy acidity. The flavours of citrus peel and crisp pear cling to your tongue and persist on a lengthy finish.
Recommended pairings: salmon, spicy crab cakes, prawns, baked chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce or seasonal turkey dinners.

Clos du Soleil Grower's Series Pinot Blanc, Similkameen Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Made from grapes harvested from the Chegwin and Baessler family vineyards in the Similkameen, the Clos Du Soleil Pinot Blanc once again ranks as my favourite Pinot Blanc in BC.
Gorgeous notes of Bartlett pear, apricot, yellow apples and guava with honey and pomelo citrus to lift. It is a pristine wine with vibrant acidity and a creamy edge. Flavours of orchard fruit, gobs of pink grapefruit lead to pear flavours on the finish. Lovely concentration with a crisp, lengthy finish.
Bravo!

Peter & Peter Pinot Noir, Pfalz Germany, 2009
Readers rated this wine:
Good pinosity.
Typical sour cherry and red currents, rainforest floor and cedar chips, leather and green herbs with fine spice. Light in body with tart red fruit, leather cocoa and spicebox flavours wrapped in an earthy shell. Good acidity here that provide good pairings with fish and runny cheeses or squash ravioli or creamy mushroom pastas.

I review very few German Pinot Noirs (mainly because there are few available in Canada), so I was pleasantly surprised to see this one come across my desk.
Pleasing aromas of raspberries, violets and sweet spice lead to an earthy core of cedar/rainforest floor and carrot tops. The palate is smooth and very light in body - red fruit and cedary flavours dominate. It is fresh and straightforward but has a very clean palate.
Pair with fish, soft/creamy cheeses or mushroom risotto.

Quails' Gate Rose, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
This yummy, blushing-copper rose consistently offers great value.
Dynamic pink grapefruit, strawberry and rhubarb notes lead to orange blossoms and faint spice. The palate is wonderfully juicy; it has good concentration and zingy tart red fruit layered with citrus. It’s the ultimate patio wine but trust me, you can pair it with anything from salads and cheese to thin-crust pizza, salmon and pork.

Bartier~Scholefield 'B.S White', Okanagan Valley
Readers rated this wine:
Here's a fragrant blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, which is made from grapes harvested near Oliver.
It has a unique smoky and earthy character that is lifted with apricot jam, golden apples, faint spice and a rich honey with a nod to caramel, nose. The palate reflects the nose - honey and apples, stone fruit and citrus flavours are interspersed with savoury herbs, and smoky minerality. It has good concentration with a lively finish.

Mer Soleil 'Gold' Barrel Fermented Chardonnay, Santa Lucia Highlands
Readers rated this wine:
Charlie Wagner's decadent Chardonnay offers liberal ripe pineapple, baking spice, honey and Meyer lemon underscored with orange blossom and vanilla and wrapped in butterscotch. It's creamy and silky in the mouth; it is spicy and buttery with welcoming vibrancy to keep it fresh. A perfect accompaniment to grilled cheese of smoked cheddar and pears on toasted sourdough or skillet cornbread from the Rutherford Grill.

Fetzer 'Sundial' Chardonnay, California
Readers rated this wine:
New look!
The nose exhibits a movie theatre confectionary of aromas - buttered popcorn, lemon curds, sweet spice and roasted sugared nuts. The palate follows suit - butter, cream, caramel and tropical fruit. A straightforward wine that shows some good freshness. Lively but with a creamy edge.
A good value white for corn bread, creamy soups or a grilled chicken ceasar salad.
