Eat your Root Veggies Perfect Pairings
Eat your Root Veggies Sure Bets

Save the salad for another day - in this category I'm talking about getting back to your roots. Think sweet and earthy veggies like: beets, squash, sweet potatoes or even, not-so-veggie mushrooms and not-so-rooty buttery corn on the cob.

A fresh everyday white with aromas of pear and bright citrus, honeysuckle and guava. There is a kiss of sweetness in the mouth with flavours of stone fruits, sweet spice and vanilla. Perseus Pinot Gris, Okanagan Valley
Readers rated this wine:
Perseus is named for the constellation Perseus, a mythical Greek warrior found in the northern sky.
The wines for this new Penticton-based winery are made by consulting winemaker, Tom DiBello.
It’s a wonderfully clean and refreshing style. Pretty spring blossoms aromas tango with honey and pear and exotic citrus. Crisp and juicy best describes the palate - it has a lovely purity of fruit and a bright finish that will partner well with salmon, crab cakes or washed rind cheeses.

Tenuta Scarpa Colombi Pinot Nero Brut, Lombardia Italy
Readers rated this wine:

Made from 100% Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) in the charmat (or bulk) method, this Italian bubbly smells of summer berries . Expect red currents and strawberries with forest floor, fine spice and the mere suggestion of violets. It has a mouth-filling mousse with medium-sized bubbles. The palate follows the nose; it's earthy and toasty with red fruit and a hint of blood orange underneath.
A fairly simple style, good for appetizers, fried fish, soft cheeses or mushroom polenta.
