Qails' Gate Merlot, Okanagan Valley BC, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
Sadly, these days it seems I am more often disappointed by Merlot, than entranced by it; but this Quails' Gate Merlot is quite outstanding. Attractive aromas of plump black cherries, vanilla and plush chocolate, hints of crushed purple flowers and a hint of oak toast. It is supple and generous on the palate with mouth-filling fruit layered with leather, and spiced cocoa flavours. Nicely balanced with bright acidity and a lengthy finish with sweet, clingy tannins.

Quails' Gate 'Dijon Clone Selection' Pinot Noir, Okanagan Valley, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
This is the first ever release of Quails' Gate's flagship Dijon Clone Selection Pinot Noir - it is an exclusive blend of the oldest and best (clones 115 & 667) Dijon vines they own. Impressive power and complexity here - aromas of black raspberries, and cherry, saddle leather and fragrant violet notes with sweet spice, cedar chips and a core of forest floor. Again, focused on the palate with impressive structure and layers of berry, spice, cedar and pipe tobacco flavours. Smoothly textured with balanced acidity and a long, intense finish. Bottle tasted #2248

Quails' Gate Cabernet Sauvignon, Okanagan Valley BC, 2009
Readers rated this wine:
The Stewart family settled in the Okanagan Valley in 1908 and purchased the land, which is now Quails' Gate Estate in 1956. They are one of the most respected producers in the Okanagan Valley - consistent and uncompromising. The Cabernet is a delicious example of this quality - it offers fragrant black raspberry, cassis and hints of blueberry layered with brown spices, vanilla, cedar and dark floral notes with hint of lifted wild herbs. It has a fine, powdery texture, the tannins are ripe, the acidity bright. Juicy dark berry, mocha, spice and tobacco flavours linger across the finish. Very good!

Always a well made Chardonnay the 2006 vintage Chardonnay shows a nice balance between crisp and creamy with pear and apple aromas, caramel notes, honey roasted nuts and citrus blossoms. Clean, with a gently rounded palate and crisp finish it shows deft oak use and pleasing minerality. Very nice. ©copyright 2008 Daenna Van Mulligen
