Tormaresca

Apulia

Tormaresca Chardonnay, Puglia Italy, 2006
Readers rated this wine:
Golden and delicious.
Lemon, pear and hazelnut aromas with rich minerals and light toasty notes. That lovely minerality lingers on the palate with juicy citrus and toasted nut flavours with soft spices.
Elegant, clean and perfect paired with creamy/nutty pasta dishes.

Tormaresca Neprica, Puglia Italy, 2004
Readers rated this wine:
Earthy...dark berries and plums with the more rustic, smoke, saddle leather and barnyard aromas with savoury herbal notes. Smooth and dark on the palate with cocoa, coffee and meaty nuances finishing with fine dusty tannins.
Pair with game or roasted meat dishes.

I've been impressed with the Tormaresca wines since first reviewing the Paiara Rose and Paiara Rosso last summer.
The Neprica is no exception. The name is a combination of the actual varietal blend NEgroamaro, PRImativo and CAbernet.
It has the requisite Italian rustic-ness of spice, leather, tobacco, red fruit, chocolate and earth with a dusty finish. Like most Italian wines the Neprica is a wine made for food!

Tormaresca Paiara Rose, Puglia Italy 2005
Readers rated this wine:
The rose is made primarily from one of Puglia's classic grape varietals Negroamaro, it's crisp and almost shockingly bone-dry with cranberry aromas to match its hue, smoke, spice and a suggestion of earth and herbs. It has vibrant acidity with loads of lemon rind and minerals on the front palate and finishes clean and dry on the finish.
This is a superb food wine made for seafood, antipasti plates or lighter grilled dishes.

Tormaresca Paiara Rosso, Puglia Italy 2003
Readers rated this wine:
This wine is one of those secrets you hate to give away (in case everyone actually reads this and buys it all). It has all the rustic elegance of Italian wine-sour cherry, dark flowers, sweaty leather, red berry and earth, a sweet velvety mouth-feel, tobacco and spice with soft tannins-all at a price point that will make you giggle with glee. Negroamaro and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tormaresca Paiara, Puglia Italy, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
Paira translates to straw which refers to the straw thatched stone houses where vineyard workers would take shelter at the end of the work day.
The wine is a blend of Puglia's traditional Negroamaro with Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a pleasing everyday dinner red that offers aromas of cherries, sunwarmed berries, chocolate and vague floral notes. Smooth and apporachable, the sweet dark fruit reappears on the palate trailing, spiced cocoa and tobacco flavours.
