Calliope 'Figure Eight' Okanagan Valley BC, 2010
Readers rated this wine:
Calliope's first-ever red wine is a blend of Syrah (78%) and Merlot (22%) and is named for the figure-eight rotation pattern of the Calliope hummingbird's wings. The aromas are plush red fruit and dark cocoa, smoked peppery spices and tobacco leaf with savoury undertones. Fresh red cherry and plum appear on the palate layered with smoked meaty flavours and pepper, which lingers across the finish. Nice bright acidity makes this a wonderful food pairing wine.
Suggested pairings: prime rib and potatoes or hearty bean and tomato casseroles.

Calliope Rose, Okanagan Valley BC, 2011
Readers rated this wine:
Following the success of Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, the Wyse family launched a second label, Calliope. This is the second vintage for this attractively priced and quite tasty rose. It's a pretty, salmon-pink coloured blend of Syrah & Viognier, which leads with fragrant floral notes, citrus, peaches and red berries. It has a spicy sweet palate of peach and cranberry with a snappy, mouthwatering finish. You won't go wrong just sipping this wine, but it will also pair with spicier dishes, pork chops, salmon or turkey.
