Marotti Campi Orgiolo Lacrima di Morro d'Alba Superiore DOC, Marche Italy 2006
Readers rated this wine:
A rare variety of mysterious origins, LaCrima is limited in DOC production to Morro d'Alba, in the seaside province of Ancona in Marche. My first sip of Lacrima (which translates to tears) was last summer in Marche during a multi-region trip to Italy. I fell instantly in love with this aromatic red grape. The Orgiolo is superbly fragrant, perfumed with lavender and rose oil, sweet spices, dried cherries and ripe berries. It's medium-bodied and silky with plenty of supple fruit and bright acidity and the finish silky. Delicious paired with wild mushroom and pecorino gnocchi.
